Gods, Divines, and the Deva.

Religion in Crudilex

The gods of Crudilex were powerful and plentiful beings who derived power from the essence of creation that slumbered in Crudilex's core. Each took on an ardent ideal and vied for the souls who praised these ideals across the Aether. After the Day of Dawn the Aether ceased to exist, and along with it the souls therein. As such, all gods of Crudilex in the recent age are mortal demigods. They have all but vanished as the walking cataclysms they once were, and now faith alone is where their power is most apparent, living on through the gifts they bestow upon their paladins, clerics, and exalts.

Exalts

Exalts are the main proponents of their divine, considered to be the mortal voice. Their decrees are treated as if spoken directly by their god. Though their role in the religion of their god varies between them, they are often the leaders of their collective worship, housed in massive dedicated cathedrals and protected by the most powerful clergy of that god.

It is also believed that if a god is slain, their Exalt will assume the mantle of that divine, ascending into the role from which they once received scripture. Such an ascension often comes with a swath of changes, as the being brings their experiences from life into their divinity. Such an ascension has happened only two times in all of Crudilexian history.

Dormis, The true god of Creation

Dormis represents a mystery unveiled on the Day of Dawn, the creation of Crudilex. Dormis is the being from which all other things came to be, including all other divine beings. It is all-powerful and uncaring, now hovering in the sky, cradling the flat plains of Crudilex in its hands and shining light on it from its twin sun eyes. While this may be the truth of the world, there are many countries that reject this creation mythology in favor of their chosen divine as a “one true god.”

Due to its nature as an agent of creation, the being of Dormis is unphased by such beliefs. It offers no powers, rewards no praise, and has no Exalt. Dormis is an entirely dormant god, simply watching the universe as an unphased outsider. Faith and belief in this uncaring one true god is fleeting in all of Crudilex outside the boundaries of places like Grand Nostradan.
